We read everything. Corrections come first: if a figure on this site is wrong, we would rather hear it from you than leave it up.

What to write about
pick oneThis is the one we most want to hear about. Tell us the page and the month and we will check it against the source. If we got it wrong we fix it and say what changed.
A city is missing[ coverage ]We publish 209 cities. If yours is not here it is usually because its police department does not report the figures in a form we can use. Tell us which city and we will look at what is available.
You have data we should use[ sources ]If you work at a police department, a city data office or a newsroom and publish something better than what we are using, send the link. Better sources are the whole point.
Press, research or licensing[ press ]The data is free to cite and free to reuse. Write if you want a bulk copy, a regular feed, or a hand understanding what a figure does and does not mean before you publish it.
Those links open your own mail app with the subject filled in. There is no form on this site: it is a set of static pages with no server to receive one, and a form that posts to somebody else would hand them your message and your address.
Before you write
two thingsWe cannot look anything up about a person. We hold no names, addresses, photographs, case numbers or individual incidents, so we cannot tell you who did something, whether someone has a record, or what happened at an address. Every figure here is a count. For an incident, ask the police department that recorded it.
We cannot change what the police reported. If a department counted something a way you disagree with, the figure on this site will match theirs. What we can do is say clearly where it came from, and the methodology page explains how each number is built.
