Privacy policy

CurrentCrimeMap is a set of static pages. There is no login, no newsletter, no comment box and no form of any kind. We do not ask for your name, your email address or your location, and there is no database on our side holding anything about visitors.

Our web host keeps ordinary server logs, the same as every website: the page requested, the time, the browser's user agent and the IP address that asked for it. Those logs exist to keep the site up and to spot abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of anyone, and they are discarded on the host's normal schedule.

The site is paid for with advertising served by Google. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, and in some cases those ads are based on your previous visits to this or other websites. That is their processing, not ours: we never see who you are, and no advertiser receives any data from us.

You can turn personalised advertising off atGoogle Ads Settings, and opt out of a longer list of vendors ataboutads.info. In Europe, the United Kingdom and Switzerland you will be asked for consent before any non-essential cookie is set, and you can change that answer at any time from the same banner.

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people actually read. It tells us how many, not who: we look at page totals and referrers, never at individual visitors. You can block it entirely with theGoogle Analytics opt-out add-on and the site will work exactly the same.

This is worth saying plainly, because people assume the opposite of a crime site. Every figure we publish is a count. We never publish names, addresses, photographs, case numbers or individual incidents, and we do not hold a copy of anything that could identify a victim, a suspect or a resident.

The smallest area we ever show is a hundred-block, exactly as the police department itself publishes it, and only where enough incidents were reported for the figure to mean anything. Those blocks are already public record. If you believe something on the site identifies a person, write to us and we will take it down while we check.

The site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. Since we collect nothing from anyone, there is nothing to delete, but if you believe a child's data reached us through a partner, tell us and we will chase it.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or California, you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its processing. We hold none, so for us the answer is short, but write to contacto@icaweb.dev and we will answer. For data held by Google as an advertising partner, use the opt-out links above or contact Google directly.

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page and describe what changed. We will not quietly start collecting something.
