The underlying records are public, published by police departments and by the FBI, and nobody owns a fact. You may quote our figures, chart them, build on them and republish them, including commercially. We ask for a credit to CurrentCrimeMap with a link, because that is how readers find their way back to the method and check the number.

Every page is also available as plain data, and there is a manifest listing all of it. Please pull what you need and cache it rather than scraping the site on a loop. If you want a bulk copy or a regular feed, ask and we will help.

The site's own text, layout and design are ours and are not part of that permission. Do not copy the pages wholesale and pass them off as a different site.

A crime rate is a count of what was reported to the police, divided by population. It is not a measure of how much crime happened, because not everything is reported, and departments differ in how they record what is. It is not a prediction, and it is certainly not a statement about the people who live somewhere.

Do not use this site to make a decision about an individual: whether to rent to someone, hire someone, insure someone or lend to them. It is not a consumer report, it is not assembled to any standard that would make it one, and it says nothing about any person at all. Using it that way may also break the law where you are.

We take accuracy seriously: the pipeline runs every morning, the sources are named on every page, and where a city's data is incomplete or late we say so on the page rather than quietly averaging over it. Even so, the data is published as it reaches us. A department can restate a month, change a definition or stop publishing, and we will be wrong until we catch it.

So the site is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, and we are not liable for what follows from relying on it. If you find an error, write tocontacto@icaweb.dev. We will fix it and say what changed.

The site carries advertising, which is what pays for it. Advertisers have no influence over what we publish and no city is ever ranked, promoted or removed because of money. Ads and outbound links point to sites we do not control and are not responsible for. What we collect from you, and what our partners collect, is set out in theprivacy policy.

If these terms change we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the new version.
