Check an address
Type a U.S. street address and we place it in its neighborhood, where the police department publishes neighborhood figures, or in its city otherwise. You get the rates, the last twelve months and a link to the full page.
What you get back
aggregates onlyThe figures are for the area around the address, never for the address itself. A neighborhood rate counts every crime reported there over twelve months, divided by the people who live there; it says nothing about a single street or building, and we do not publish individual incidents.
Neighborhood figures exist for 1,103 areas in16 cities: Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boise, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington. Everywhere else the address leads to its city, or to the county police or sheriff area if it is outside city limits, as reported to the FBI. If the place is not covered yet, you get its state’s figures.
Where the address goes
privacyTo find the point on the map, the address is sent from your browser to theU.S. Census Bureau’s geocoder, a free public service. Everything after that happens in your browser: the point is matched against the neighborhood outlines and the figures already published on this site. The address never reaches us, and nothing is saved. Privacy policy
